Angela Aumonier, Beauty, Purpose & the Power to Make a Difference

Long before the crown, there was a girl who loved to compete, perform and challenge herself. Angela Aumonier grew up with a natural sporting spirit, earning the nickname “Sporty Spice” before going on to become a European netball champion. Yet alongside that competitive side was another influence that would eventually lead her towards the world of pageantry. With a Filipino mother who watched Miss Universe every year, the fascination with the competition was present from an early age. Today, as Miss Universe Great Britain, Angela is experiencing the journey she once dreamed about, but her ambitions reach far beyond the crown.

For Angela, pageantry has become a platform rather than a destination. Her own experiences with health, combined with the loss of her aunt Marsha to ovarian cancer, changed the direction of her life and inspired her to establish Marsha’s Hope Foundation. What began with grief became a mission centred on preventative women’s healthcare, education and early intervention. Medical missions across the Philippines have provided free consultations, screenings, medication and surgeries, alongside education designed to give women greater knowledge about their health. The crown, she explains, does not give her a purpose. She already had one. What it gives her is a platform to make women’s health impossible to ignore.

Her identity as a British Filipina also plays an important role in the way she understands representation. Growing up between cultures taught Angela that there is never only one way to view the world. Her curiosity about different people, experiences and perspectives has become part of who she is, while her heritage has given her an appreciation for identities that can coexist rather than compete. She sees herself as representing a modern Great Britain that is diverse, multicultural and enriched by the many stories that make up its society.

That sense of individuality has also transformed the way she approaches pageantry. One of her greatest lessons has been understanding that she performs at her best when she is completely herself. Earlier in her journey, she felt pressure to become a particular version of a beauty queen and sometimes allowed pageantry to consume too much of her identity. Today, she sees the importance of balance. Her work in healthcare, her foundation, family, friends, sport, hobbies and responsibilities as Miss Universe Great Britain can all exist together. Rather than diminishing her role, embracing the whole person has made her stronger within it.

For Angela, beauty has little to do with perfection. She describes it as what you leave behind in a room rather than simply how you look when you enter it. Integrity, kindness, confidence and the way someone treats others when nobody is watching carry far greater meaning. Her confidence is not necessarily loud. She does not believe impact requires dominating a room. Instead, she values the ability to listen, connect with people and speak with purpose. There is an elegance in quiet confidence, and it is one that feels particularly relevant in a world often obsessed with being seen.

Wellness has become another important part of that philosophy. Having experienced burnout after pushing herself too hard in the past, Angela understands that looking after yourself cannot be treated as an afterthought. As an epidemiologist working in preventative healthcare, she takes a holistic view of wellbeing. Exercise and nutrition are important, but so are relationships, time outdoors, rest, social connection and maintaining a sense of enjoyment. Preparing for Miss Universe Great Britain has therefore been about feeling energised and healthy rather than chasing an unrealistic physical ideal.

Her routine includes eating well, staying active, running, spending time outdoors and preparing through heel and question and answer training. Yet she also makes space for family, friends and a social life. That balance is central to her understanding of wellness. When every aspect of life is considered together, feeling your best becomes less about appearance and more about having the energy and emotional space to enjoy the life you are building.

Winning the title has brought its own form of pressure. With the crown came greater visibility, expectations and opportunities, along with the responsibility of representing the role well. Angela has learned that pressure becomes easier to manage when she remembers why she is doing what she does. She does not need to be perfect. She simply needs to be present, prepared and authentic. Taking each day as it comes allows her to enjoy the experience rather than becoming so focused on the final destination that she forgets to appreciate the journey.

At the heart of her platform is a message that she wants women everywhere to hear: looking after your health should not begin only when something goes wrong. Her work in preventative healthcare has shown her the power of education and early awareness. Women often know their bodies better than anyone else, yet many still question themselves when something does not feel right. Through Marsha’s Hope Foundation, Angela wants to give women the knowledge and confidence to ask questions, seek support and make informed decisions about their health.

Her motivation is deeply personal. Marsha’s story continues to influence the work she does, transforming a painful loss into something capable of creating positive change. For Angela, remembering her aunt is not only about remembering how she died but celebrating the strength with which she lived. That perspective gives the foundation its emotional heart and reminds her why prevention, education and awareness matter so deeply.

Beyond the title, Angela hopes people remember her through three words: curious, competitive and compassionate. Curiosity drives her desire to learn, experience new things and understand people whose lives may be very different from her own. Her competitive side means she continues to show up, particularly when things become difficult, always challenging herself to improve. Compassion ensures that whatever she does has the potential to create a positive impact for others. These qualities existed before the crown and will remain long after it.

Her next chapter promises to be one of the most exciting yet. Her first weeks as Miss Universe Great Britain have already demonstrated how quickly life can change, and the months ahead will take her into new countries, cultures and experiences. Her upcoming journey to Puerto Rico for the 75th Miss Universe will introduce her to women from across the world, each bringing their own stories, backgrounds and perspectives. For someone who believes meaningful change begins when people come together and learn from one another, the opportunity carries significance far beyond the competition itself.

Angela is entering this chapter with the enthusiasm of someone who has waited a long time for the moment but is determined not to take any of it for granted. She wants to make the most of the crown, create meaningful impact for women and girls and remain open to everything the experience can teach her.

The crown may define a chapter, but it does not define Angela Aumonier. Beneath the glamour of pageantry is an athlete, healthcare professional, daughter, founder, advocate and woman with a deeply personal reason for wanting to make a difference. Her journey demonstrates that beauty becomes most powerful when it carries purpose. As she steps onto an international stage, Angela is not simply representing Great Britain. She is using the visibility she has earned to encourage women to know their bodies, trust their voices and recognise that caring for themselves is not a luxury, but a priority.
